“Take care, watch out, don’t throw garbage!” – Cleaning actions from Tuzla to Mostar: For nature in the colors of autumn, not waste

At the end of September and the beginning of October, volunteers from environmental organizations realized cleaning actions of popular picnic areas, the beauty of which was ruined by waste. They cleaned at locations all over the country, from Vršani and Lake Kop near Tuzla, through the Tajan Nature Monument, the Vraca Memorial Park in Sarajevo and further south to Brkanovo brdo and Rujište near Mostar.

Within the cleaning action “Take care, watch out, don’t throw garbage!” near Tuzla, the area of Lake Kop Šićki Brod was cleaned, as well as the hiking trails leading to the mountain house “Djed Stjepan” in Vršani. The Association of Citizens Ekosol, the Mountaineering Association Konjuh and the Center for Ecology and Energy said that a trip to nature must not end with irresponsible waste disposal and that we all need to think about the recycling process.

In the area of the Tajan Nature Monument, the Association of Citizens Fojničani and Snik Atom Zavidovići cleaned the shores of Lake Mašica, while divers cleaned the waste from the bottom of the lake. In addition to large quantities of weeds, shrubs and branches, six bags of non-degradable waste were collected, and a toilet that could not be accessed is operational again.

The Center for Civil Society Promotion (CPCD) gathered about 20 people at the cleaning action of the Memorial Park of Vraca in Sarajevo. Equipped with cleaning tools and with a lot of good energy, they collected 15 bags of waste and then enjoyed the food and refreshing Ožujsko beer.

Members of HPD Prenj in 1933 and PSD Prenj from Mostar cleaned at two locations near the city – Brkanovo brdo and Rujište, and then continued to socialize with bean stew and beer.

“These locations are rich in forests where people breathe with full lungs, and unfortunately also the space that irresponsible citizens use for waste disposal,” they pointed out and said that the positive story of two Mostar mountaineering associations and the support of Ožujsko pivo through the eco campaign can be an example to others to pay more attention to waste disposal in nature and to be active and make changes in their environment.

The campaign “Take care, watch out, don’t throw garbage!”, which has been implemented since May 2021, is a continuation of many years of successful socially responsible projects by which Molson Coors BH and Ožujsko pivo support the awakening of environmental awareness and love for nature. The overall goal of the campaign is to encourage as many people as possible to think green, contribute to the improvement of the state of the environment and eliminate a large number of illegal landfills on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
