Youth Dialogue in Bratunac – introducing the local youth policy

The Municipality of Bratunac and the Institute for Youth Development KULT organized the event “Youth Dialogue” in Bratunac. Such an event is one of the steps in the preparation of the local government’s local youth policy.

The Youth Dialogue gathered 25 participants, non-governmental organizations, government institutions, but also representatives of the business sector who had the opportunity to identify crucial problems and needs in the field of education, employment, social care, culture, youth activism and participation in Bratunac. In addition to identification, the participants of the event also created a set of proposals for solving the problems that young people face. It is especially important to work on strengthening intersectoral cooperation in the field of education and employability of young people. In addition, the need for more space to support the development of cultural content was emphasized as one of the problems, as well as finding space and opportunities to support the establishment of youth organizations and work with young people.

The discussion that took place during the Dialogue was also supported by the young people who, by participating in the focus group, contributed to a better understanding of the needs and problems of young people in Bratunac. Both activities, Youth Dialogue and Focus Groups, are part of a process that will contribute to the development of local youth policy with the full participation of young people, but also representatives of all other relevant actors in the community.

The Institute’s team has completed field research of the needs and problems of young people. The first analysis of the needs and problems of young people in Bratunac is being prepared, after which the Municipality of Bratunac will work with the Institute and the coordinating body in drafting a document.

The youth policy will be adopted at the level of the Republika Srpska and local self-government units for a period of five years. Based on the adopted youth policy, the Republika Srpska and local self-government units will adopt an action plan for the implementation of youth policy for a period of one year. The action plan should be adopted within 30 days from the day of the adoption of the budget for the year for which the action plan is adopted. The youth policy and the action plan for the implementation of the youth policy for the area of ​​the local self-government unit are adopted by the assembly of the local self-government unit at the proposal of the competent body of the local self-government unit and the youth commission.

The development of local youth policy in the Municipality of Bratunac is implemented with the support of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Resilience Initiative (BHRI) program. The program is implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
