Restore citizens’ trust!

Urgent procurement of the COVID vaccines should be a priority for every representative of the BiH authorities

The Network for Building Peace in BiH appeals to all elected representatives on the state, entity and cantonal levels to assume the responsibility they have received from citizens in a democratic way, perform their duties, and to restore citizens’ trust that they are able to effectively and coherently fight COVID-19 pandemic.

Urgent procurement of vaccines is needed, without any further delay, for every citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, without any politicization, discrimination and privileges.

All citizens, although frightened and outraged, will continue to fight against COVID, respecting all epidemiological measures. The authorities and health institutions have the mandate, duty and responsibility to stop political propaganda, to give up the rhetoric of divisions, to unite and start acting coherently to ensure all the necessary conditions and circumstances to protect the health of citizens, their lives and control the spread of COVID.

We express our support and immense gratitude to all health professionals and call on citizens not to give up their clear and loud constructive resistance. In this severe individual and social crisis, all citizens can continue to count on the tireless support of the Network for Building Peace. We will continue the civic struggle for social responsibility, humanity and dignity, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, until the last needed vaccine arrives in BiH, but also in the future.

The Network for Building Peace is actively monitoring the situation in the country, and will continue to analyze the fight against COVID and the work of authorities on the procurement of vaccines in BiH. On this occasion, the Network will soon organize a large conference that will bring together civil society leaders, not only from non-governmental organizations but also the media and trade unions.

The Network for Building Peace was established in February 2010 and currently gathers 217 members (organizations and schools) from all over BiH.

What we want and what is needed for the whole country is a comprehensive effort aimed at restoring the quality of social and economic life in BiH, as well as effort towards a long-term increase in the capacity of the BiH society to deal with differences and conflicts in a constructive and non-violent way, and thus create a framework for joint, coordinated action of non-governmental organizations, local government and self-government, business sector, media and state institutions. Our goal is to create concrete initiatives related to the areas of public policy that are recognized as a key process to long-term peacebuilding in BiH.
