Invitation for the Participation in 2023 Peace Days: Future = Positive Peace

Invitation for the Participation in 2023 Peace Days
Future = Positive Peace
Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, September 20 – 22, 2023

The Network for Building Peace is organising Peace Days under the slogan ”Future = Positive Peace” in cooperation with forumZFD in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Forum Civil Peace Service) and Peace Education Hub at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo. This event will also include the award of the Peace Prize ”Goran Bubalo” that will take place for the eleventh time and marking of the International Peace Day on September 21, 2023 and the International Peace Education Day on September 20, 2023 and will gather peace activists, teachers, experts, educators and young activists.

Peace Days will be an additional opportunity to promote peace in the country and the region and invite decision makers to resolve conflicts peacefully. The event will particularly focus on the link between peace building and support to the local socio-economic development and EU integration for the purpose of creating new jobs, strengthening the education sector and peace education, culture of remembrance, the health sector and the judiciary and digitalisation and green transformation of Western Balkan societies. The three-day event will include the Peace Pedagogy Summer School, ”Peace Activism for Peace” Conference intended for youth in particular, 11th ”Goran Bubalo” Prize Award Ceremony and a regional seminar entitled ”Peace Education and Human Rights: How Can Divisions at Schools and Discrimination against Youth in Community Work Be Overcome”.

These social aspects and institutions are the ones building long-term and positive peace that Peace Days focus on. A positive peace also includes attitudes, institutions and structures that build and maintain peaceful societies, and they are closely related to economic development, environmental protection, and higher resilience and adaptability to social change. Youth are key positive peace and change enablers in all aspects of our lives. Youth bring power, motivation, inspiration and wish for the elimination of divisions. We are also inviting the representatives of the formal and informal education sector and all interested persons to join us during Peace Days.

In addition to awareness raising, Peace Days also include educational activities and a conference during which youth will be able to present their opinions and perspectives of peace building at their local communities and the links to the socio-economic development. Conclusions, new contacts and networking during Peace Days will be used by the Network for Building Peace and its partners to step up their efforts in sustainable peace building and intensify their work at local communities, especially in the framework of the Local Works Project – Snaga lokalnog. Please register using this link. Application deadline: 10.9.2023.
