The conference entitled “Together for good and sustainable policies towards young people” aims to present models and possibilities of implementation of important mechanisms that are defined through the FBiH Youth Law, the RS Youth Organization Law and the Brčko District Youth Law . First of all, it will be discussed about the participation of young people in decision-making, i.e. the involvement of young people in the work of youth commissions at all levels (municipal, city, cantonal and entity) and about the creation of budgets for young people. At the conference, we will present the system of support that the Institute offers to decision-makers and government institutions in order to create policies and programs for young people.
Panel I – Youth participation in decision-making: opportunities and positive practice
The focus of the first panel will be on the inclusion of young people in decision-making processes, that is, on the current state and challenges of the inclusion of young people in decision-making processes. Opportunities and positive practices from different levels of government that should be applied in the coming period will be considered. The guests of the panel will be politicians from all levels of government (president of the FBiH Commission for Youth Affairs, representative of the Committee for Children, Youth and Sports of the Republic of Srpska, representatives of the Youth Council of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Youth Council of the Republic of Srpska).
Panel II – Conversation with the occasion – What is the youth budget?
The second panel will cover issues related to the youth budget. The guest will be a representative of the Service for Education, Culture and Sports from the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo. After the adoption of the new Youth Strategy, this municipality undertook certain activities to create a special budget item for youth.
The participants will discuss what a budget for youth is, how well the government institutions and their representatives are aware of the necessity of creating a budget, and whether there are positive examples of communities that have undertaken certain activities to create a special budget item within the institution’s budget that would include all allocations for youth.
With this event, the Institute for Youth Development KULT continues to develop and advocate legal and other strategic solutions, as well as to build and strengthen the capacities of associations and authorities in BiH and the region, for successful and sustainable policies towards young people, which can only be achieved through the joint engagement of representatives of government institutions, i.e. politicians who operate at different levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations that work with young people.
The conference “Together for good and sustainable policies towards young people” will be held at the Hills Hotel in Sarajevo on April 25, starting at 10:00 a.m. Participants will be representatives of youth commissions, elected politicians in municipal/city councils and cantonal and entity assemblies or parliaments, and representatives of umbrella bodies for youth.
