Description

The Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO), the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund (PBF), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in cooperation with the Mozaik Foundation, Beyond42 and the Agency Mašta, organized by the Regional Youth Peace Laboratory (RYPL) in 2021, i.e., a mentoring process in which teams of youth advocates compete in defining and developing concrete, effective policy solutions. The aim of the competition is to position and engage young people as promising and innovative policy makers who can make a significant contribution to peacebuilding initiatives in the Western Balkans region.

A total of 120 youth advocates from 6 Western Balkan countries (WB6) will work in teams to find policy solutions to the most pressing regional issues:

  • Education – education reform in the region to better respond to the challenges of the 21st century;
  • Youth mobility – mobility of young people in the region in terms of studying, traveling, working and learning;
  • Peace and the legacy of the past – the burdensome legacy of trauma inherited by post-conflict generations.

Participants will be grouped into teams of 3-6 people who will focus on one of three challenges.

The teams will have 12 days to prepare a strategic document and record a three-minute presentation that they will present to the general public. During this time, they will have mentoring assistance from regional experts on given topics, policy adoption and public advocacy. The competition will end with a 48-hour vote, during which the general public will be able to attend a virtual event, watch policy presentations and vote for favorites.

Teams with the three best policies for each of the 3 challenges will win valuable prizes:

1st place in the challenge – each team member wins an Amazon Kindle + a $ 150 gift card

2nd place in the challenge – each team member wins a $ 100 gift card

3rd place in the challenge – each team member wins a $ 50 gift card

In addition, the best policies will be published in the Youth Policy Book of the 6 Western Balkan countries and the Innovation Policy Development Guide. The guide will open the source of the whole format of the competition and thus enable everyone to use it as a means to improve participation of young people in policy making.
