Young leaders in the community: Encounters that build bridges among young people

Trainee “Learn, Think and Act!” Amina Bašić , launched the initiative called “City of Youth” and opened the door to an inspiring story in Novi Travnik. Recognizing that Novi Travnik is a municipality where young people often face a lack of opportunities for direct interaction, which creates invisible walls between young people of different ethnic groups, Amina decided to start a new story.

Determined to initiate positive changes, with her own initiative she opposed the isolation and lack of contact between young people, where she recognized the need to foster mutual understanding and dialogue.

Amina created a dynamic environment where young voices came together, shared and learned from each other. One of the key activities of the initiative was the organization of  “Peace Square”  , which serves as a symbolic space where bridges between cultures are built and open communication is encouraged, but also an opportunity to share stories, experiences and perspectives.

In addition, as part of the initiative, a film evening was organized, which provided an opportunity for relaxed socializing and joint enjoyment of the film, and dialogues were organized on the topic of identity, conflicts, stereotypes and prejudices, giving young people the opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings, which contributed to the development their social and communication skills.

The initiative “City of Youth” and “Peace Square” in Novi Travnik represent a step towards a common future that is built on the foundations of understanding, dialogue and friendship among young people. Young people in Novi Travnik show that they are ready to overcome differences and build bridges.

“For me, the local civic initiative was a source of inspiration and support in the fight for a better society and the inclusion of young people. Through the initiative, I found the strength to actively engage in achieving positive changes in the community. For my municipality, this was a complete refreshment and a new energy that gave young people the wind at their backs to participate in different fields, for the common good,”  said Amina.

This initiative is implemented in partnership with  the Youth Council of the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo , with mentoring and financial support  from the Institute for Youth Development KULT .
