Young athletes received prize money from the Municipality of Centar Sarajevo as appreciation for their results and success

On Monday, January 11, 2021, Mayor of Municipality Centar Sarajevo Srđan Mandić, together with counselor Draško Luković and assistant for disabled veterans, social protection and social activities Jasmina Fazlić, hosted successful young athletes Benjamin and Neal Ahmedbegović. Municipality of Centar Sarajevo provides significant support to young people, and this is just one in a series of indicators that this local community supports the successes of young people who represent our country.

Benjamin Ahmedbegović is a young athlete who won first place in the 60-meter discipline in the junior category at the indoor championships of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in athletics, held on December 26, 2020.

Young swimmer Neal Ahmedbegović won first place at the Winter State Swimming Championship of Bosnia and Herzegovina, held on December 26, 2020 in Banja Luka, in the category of 100 meters dolphin and senior competition. Also, she won two third places at the same competition, in the category 100 meters crawl and 200 meters freestyle.

The awarded athletes, who are also scholarship holders of the Municipality of Centar, expressed their gratitude to the Municipality of Centar and Mayor Mandić for recognizing their successes and good results, and briefly presented the problems they face every day to their hosts. The lack of sports infrastructure was highlighted.

Mayor Mandić awarded modest financial resources to young athletes as a sign of appreciation of their work and success. He pointed out that during his term as mayor he will focus on improving sports infrastructure and provide young people with better conditions for the training process, which will certainly contribute to achieving even better results.

“Although investing in sports is not a direct competence of local communities, I feel obliged to work harder on solving this issue. I am aware of the problems that athletes face and I am ready to work hard to improve the situation in the field of sports,” said mayor Mandić.

The funds were allocated through public calls issued by the Municipality of Centar for the allocation of funds from the grant for rewarding young successful individuals living in the Municipality of Centar.
