Sarajevo, November 29, 2021 – In the last year, the Network for Building Peace has been actively monitoring and mapping civic activism in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This mapping pointed to the fact that a multitude of initiatives, coalitions, peaceful assemblies, and public campaigns have been launched across the country aimed at protecting the natural environment from destruction and pollution. Environmental activism indicates an increase in public awareness of the importance of environmental problems and their connection with human health, sustainable development and climate change, but also the fight against corruption.
In order to support these original, local, informal civic eco-initiatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Network for Building Peace within the Local Works project organized a national conference aimed at networking representatives of initiatives and organizations working in this field, and considering the possibility of strengthening mutual support, increasing the visibility and eco-activism, but also the development of the environmental movement.
At this conference, the Network successfully presented its online databases Civic Activism in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Environmental Activism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In addition to exchanging ideas and opinions, the conference on environmental activism contributed to the development of certain conclusions and proposals for future activities of the Network, which seeks to connect and unite all social actors working to build long-term positive peace and sustainable development in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, solidarity and joint action.
