Student startup competition – Applications until March 31

The University of Belgrade announced on its website that applications are open for “Danube Cup 2024”, a student startup competition that provides a unique opportunity for young and ambitious entrepreneurs who have developed and at least confirmed their business idea at the local level.

As they emphasize on the website of the University, which is a partner in the “Danube Cup”, this is not a competition of ideas, but of business ideas that must already be validated among potential customers, that is, users. Also, the concept must be innovative and original and must have a high growth potential that is independent of trends in the local market.

Student teams that are interested in participating, as stated, should meet the following criteria:- Validation: teams should have done validation research of their business idea, at least at the local level;
– Team size: they must have a minimum of two and a maximum of five team members, and competition participants can be members of only one team;
– Student team: it is allowed to include non-students among the team members, but the majority of members should still be full-time students, of which at least one member must be a full-time student of one of the competition’s partner universities, in this case the University of Belgrade;
– Development phase: teams must be in the pre-seed or pre-incubator phase, without previous financial support from accelerators, incubators, companies or VC funds;
– Availability: team members must be available to participate in all stages of the competition.

During the competition, student teams are expected to be mentored, connected and cooperated with other student teams, mentors, entrepreneurs and sponsors, as well as with business angels and VC funds. Valuable cash prizes await the most successful teams.

A pitch competition will be organized at the University of Belgrade (in mid-April 2024) for a maximum of 20 student teams, which are already working on the development of their innovative solutions. After the pitch competition, the two selected student startup teams will be mentored and prepared for the semi-finals, which will be held on May 16 in Linz, and one of the teams will advance to the final of the competition – on May 17, also in Linz.

The call for interested teams is open until March 31, and you can find more details on how to apply  HERE .
