Startup studio & Basic educated entrepreneurs about grants

Startup studio organizes segmented and thematic training for its businesses and micro-businesses.

Today the Startup Studio, organized a hybrid training for more than forty entrepreneurs on the topic: “How to successfully prepare an application for grant funds for businesses?“. The training session was held by entrepreneurs Alma Basic and Rialda Jasarevic, owners of the micro-business Basic (Business Advanced Start-up Initiative Center) from Zenica, which was supported by the Mozaik Foundation.

Basic is a consulting agency that deals with the creation of project applications, business plans and general business consulting for small, medium and startup companies, so during the training, participants had the opportunity to learn about case studies, public calls and learn about their advantages and disadvantages. On the examples of applying to the bank, international call and examples from FBiH and RS, participants were introduced to possible sources of financing.

The young entrepreneur, Rialda Jasarevic, explained what needs to be paid attention to when preparing for public calls from state/entity or international/domestic organizations:

“The most important thing is to read the public call carefully, so that in fact the person, that is, the company applying for the public call, knows whether it meets the requirements. A lot of clients contact us saying that they absolutely did not read the guidelines of the public call and they want to participate. It is important to understand that everything as stated in the guidelines must be fulfilled”, said Rialda Jasarevic.

Twenty-seven-year-old Alma Basic talked about the most common mistakes made when applying, but also if a business pays for the service of preparing an application. Alma advised to pay attention to:

“Each call is different, but there are some things that are the same for all calls, for example, the activity code of the company itself – the basic activity for which the company operates, it often happens that they are registered according to a certain activity code, while they do different types of business, from production to sales, and then they think that even though they do all that, they can apply for the project, but they can’t. The activity code, it is important that it is the one according to the Classification Notice. It is one of the most common mistakes. In addition, applicants do not collect documentation in the right way, fill out the application manually or fill out the application with one or two sentences, which is not enough. Then, they don’t follow the basic conditions that have been stated, they don’t follow the methodology of public calls”, emphasized Basic and pointed out that if someone prepares an application for the needs of a business, he_she must pay attention to whether the company is registered, but also that it is important to get to know the person with whom we are working. Basic mentioned that it is important to make a contract, especially if it involves larger funds.

Iman Della Luna Glusac, a young entrepreneur and owner of the Studio 55 business, who also received financial and mentoring support from the Mozaik Foundation, was also present at the training. Studio 55 manufactures wood and metal furniture and artwork, and she noted that it was especially important for her as an artist to hear how to fill out the application. She wanted to learn something so that she could pass on her knowledge to others:

“I think the most important thing for me is that I heard a little more about the administration. I learned how to fill out the application, what to pay attention to and how to follow the instructions,” said Glusac.

The training was hybrid and some of the participants attended online. One of them is Osman Mekic, owner of the business and dental office Moj osmijeh, which was also supported by the Mozaik Foundation. Osman pointed out why this education was important to him:

“I followed the training online, so I could observe the slides more closely and listen to the lecturers. I already have experience in writing projects for grants, and the part that I needed, was explained yesterday and brought closer to the users. Namely, as a very important item, I would single out that we should not be lazy and that we have to read the call because if the call was not made for our business, we will not waste time on that call, which many avoid and when they are rejected, they do not understand how someone got the grant. Another thing, when we determine that we can apply for the call, we need to clearly read and understand what is being asked for, and not to add something of our own just in case. The third thing is to collect all the necessary documents, because if the requirement is ten documents, there must be ten of them, not seven or eight. Additionally, it is smart and wise to write in the application realistic and possible activities, because we ourselves would not approve unrealistic ones”, said Mekic at the end.

The Startup studio will continue to organize segmented and thematic training for its businesses and micro-businesses, but also provide support to young entrepreneurs, both financially through grants for starting a business, and mentoring that ensures the success of a business plan and business idea.

The hybrid event was implemented by the Masta marketing agency.
