Nestlé strengthens environmental protection activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina

  • Nestlé joins Let’s Do It BiH project and launches Clean Art campaign
  • Nestlé creates alliances, and Nestlé partners such as distributors and retailers join the activities

August 24, 2021, Sarajevo – Nestlé in Bosnia and Herzegovina joins forces with the Association “Ruke” and their project Let’s Do it BiH. Together, they will implement a series of activities aimed at educating citizens about the importance of caring for the environment, with an emphasis on reducing plastic waste, responsible water use and proper waste disposal. The cooperation begins with a clean-up action in Sarajevo, where Nestlé employees will also contribute. The highlight of the campaign will be the exhibition open to the public “Clean Art”. A special feature is that Nestlé creates alliances, and Nestlé partners such as distributors and trading partners join the environmental activities.

According to research[1], each inhabitant of Bosnia and Herzegovina produces on average about 350 kilograms of waste during one year. It takes joint action by all actors to make positive progress towards the sustainability and well-being of the planet visible.

Nestlé is the largest food company in the world, selling over a billion products a day worldwide. With that comes a great responsibility to communities, but also to the planet. We are completely transforming our business towards sustainability – from the procurement of raw materials, production process, distribution, to the education of partners and end consumers. Sustainable innovations such as SMARTIES, MAGGI Super Soup and NESCAFÉ are proof of that. We also want to inspire our citizens to contribute to positive environmental changes with small daily steps,” said Milan Dukić, Sales Manager of Nestlé for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Since 2012, the Association “Ruke”, as part of the international project Let’s Do It, has been conducting local clean-up volunteer actions of illegal landfills and planting trees, in which almost 200,000 volunteers participated and tens of thousands of tons of waste were cleaned and almost half a million seedlings of various tree species were planted.

We are glad that Nestlé saw the problem that huge amounts of waste create for our environment, and decided to act in an original and creative way on the consciousness of our fellow citizens and send the message that waste is not only garbage, but also a very important and underused resource. We are especially pleased that such a large and successful company has recognized the potential for cooperation in Let’s Do It, and in this way, we will make an overture for the global environmental action – World Cleanup Day,” representatives of the project “Let’s Do It” in Bosnia and Herzegovina stated.

Nestlé has committed itself to be able to recycle or reuse 100% of all product packaging by 2025, to halve its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and to reach zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
