Training for providers of free legal aid in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in Mostar on Monday and Tuesday.
In Mostar, on May 27 and 28, a training for providers of free legal aid in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held “Transitional justice and civilian victims of war – rights, legal aid and support”, Network for coordination of governmental and non-governmental providers of free legal aid in Bosnia and Herzegovina , organized by the Center for Human Rights in Mostar, within the framework of the project “Strengthening transitional justice through free legal aid in Bosnia and Herzegovina” supported by the project “Support of the European Union to building trust in the Western Balkans”, financed by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the Development program of the United Nations. (UNDP).
The goal of this training is, along with education about transitional justice and mechanisms of transitional justice, through the lectures of Prof. Ph.D. Midhat Izmirlija, associate professor of the Faculty of Law of the University of Sarajevo, and discussion, conclusions and (proposed) joint activities, cooperation of governmental and non-governmental providers of free legal aid, to enable and improve access to justice for civilian victims of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Representatives of governmental and non-governmental providers of free legal aid (directors, assistant directors, legal representatives) of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Srpska, the Center for Providing Free Legal Aid of the Republic of Srpska participated in the training and discussion on access to free legal aid for civilian victims of the war in BiH. , Office in Trebinje, County Office for the Provision of Free Legal Aid in Sarajevo, County Office for Legal Aid in Zenica-Doboj County, County Office for the Provision of Legal Aid in Široki Brijeg, County Office for the Provision of Legal Aid in Odžak, County Office for the Provision of Legal Aid in Livna, and representatives of non-governmental organizations Vaša Prava BiH, the Center for Women’s Rights and the Center for Human Rights in Mostar.
During the training, the legal, strategic and institutional framework in the field of rights of civilian victims of war was analyzed and discussed, with a focus on access to justice – free legal aid, protection of the rights and interests of civilian victims of war, especially through free legal aid, and strengthening the role of providers of free legal aid in the mechanisms in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the realization and protection of rights, status and protection in the system – the institutional chain of support from various competent actors to civilian victims of war, and conclusions were adopted for the further work of the members of the Network for the coordination of governmental and non-governmental providers of free legal aid in Bosnia and Herzegovina Herzegovina in this area, especially through the Action Plan, information, promotion, cooperation, education, provision of free legal aid, which at the same time represents key project and program determinants.
