The development of mountain tourism on Majevica is more and more current, and thanks to the three-year cooperation of the municipalities from Tuzla Canton and Republika Srpska, i.e., Teočak, Sapna, Čelić, Lopare and Ugljevik.

The cooperation was initiated by the OSCE in Bosnia and Herzegovina. With its facilities and natural resources, Majevica Mountain is an ideal place for rest, recreation and enjoying the rich gastronomic offer and rural tourism.

Majevica and Podmajevica region has great opportunities for the development of tourism that would make Majevica into a tourist attraction.

– I think that there are numerous good ideas, but also ideas that go beyond the framework that we imagined, which is proof that these five municipalities have a very good cooperation and a good future. The ideas that are being imposed go much wider than the tourism development of Majevica itself – says Damir Gnjidić, OSCE.

Infrastructure, signs, signalization are needed for the development of any tourism, even mountain tourism, and that is an increasingly difficult task for municipalities that are not very developed. However, there is progress in working together.

– We, small municipalities, in the environment of large, economically stronger ones, are looking for space for cooperation in mutual communication. I think that this is a good example of how to start something and act together and create new potentials – points out Željko Kerović, representative of the municipality of Lopare.

The activities so far have resulted in the tracing of the Via Majevica bicycle track, which is located in all five municipalities and is almost 80 km long. Then, a joint website Visit Majevica was created, for which young people from the mentioned five municipalities created.

– The implementation of these activities creates better relations between these five municipalities from both entities. On the other hand, we include young people in the realization of sports and other activities – says Hanifa Selamović, a member of the Working Group from Sapna.

The promotional film “Majevica – another story” will be published soon, which will show all the natural and other resources available in places around this mountain. In addition, preparations are underway for visits by specific donors and the definition of joint projects that will be presented to donors and agencies.

Majevica region offers a number of social activities, and some of the events are the bicycle race “Via Majevica”, recreational race “Sapanjska biciklijada”, then the plum, fruit brandies and honey festival in Ugljevik, which is a great opportunity for local producers to present their products. “Sapanjsko ljeto” is also a popular event.

Cycling adventures are especially attractive, which are a good way to get to know the cultural and historical sights and landscapes of the Majevica region.
