The award, established in 2013 and awarded to individuals, schools and organizations that contribute to peacebuilding and human rights promotion, has been named after Goran Bubalo since 2020 in memory of the late founder and president of the Network.

This year, the jury recognized the humanitarianism and commitment of Nihad Suljić who is fighting for the rights and freedoms of people on the move in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the decades-long work of Indira Bajramović in the fight for the rights and security of Roma women and gender equality of all women in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“By fighting for the weakest, we are actually fighting for all of us in the future,” said Nihad Suljić, a humanitarian and activist, winner of the Goran Bubalo Peace Prize.

In addition to individuals, the award was given to the Center for Peace Education at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo, and the jury decided to award a special prize to the BiH Pride March for courage and public advocacy for LGBTIQ+ individuals.

This award is extremely important for all of us, as a society and as individuals, now more than ever, because it indicates that all of us as individuals can contribute to a better and fairer society, which our Goran advocated, by whom the award is named after”, said Nataša Maksimović, president of the Network for Building Peace.

As one of the largest coalitions of organizations and schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina “Network for Building Peace” with this award seeks to draw attention to the efforts and successes of people, organizations and schools that serve as role models and motivate others to work in the field of tolerance and peacebuilding.

This year’s award was enriched by the screening of a film about the late founder of the Network, the address of previous winners and a conversation about peace, civil liberties and human rights.
