The public company Komunalno doo Mostar is intensively working on the arrangement of access roads for pedestrians, people with disabilities, mothers with children in strollers and everyone else in the area around Mepas, near the Employment Office and in Splitska Street.
“Our goal is to improve the city’s transport infrastructure in order to ensure a safer and more accessible Mostar for all of us. We are proud to say that we are currently working on installing 30 such ramps throughout our city,” they stated in their announcement.
Discussions were often held and the public pointed out that the streets of Mostar and its public institutions are not suitable for people with mobility difficulties.
“The obstacles are big, starting from just walking around the city, the sidewalks are terrible, something has been done, something not. Again, there are a few centimeters left and people in wheelchairs can get stuck, I may be able to cross them, but I need more power, I also use an electric wheelchair and with them it is impossible to cross that obstacle, I have to keep in mind the coordinates of where I am and go around where it can,” said Ivica Pavlović, the president of the association of paraplegics and children with polio, Marko Ravlić.
During one of the debates where architectural barriers were discussed, Pavlović pointed out that what angers him the most is that when roads are rebuilt, they are not done well. That’s why we hope that this time the transition will be made with the right slope and without extra centimeters that make it difficult for people in wheelchairs to move.
