CONFERENCE: PUBLIC GOODS AND LOCAL DEVELOPMENT IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

September 08-09, 2022, Sarajevo (Hotel Pino, Trebevic)

Public goods in Bosnia and Herzegovina are unprotected. Many local communities do not have access to clean water, sewage systems, clean energy sources, and are affected by waste disposal problems and various other forms of water, land, and air pollution.

These insights are based on research conducted by the Network for Building Peace over the past two years based on the mapping of the socioeconomic development needs of local communities in 26 cities/municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, taking into account the representation of local communities with different geographic, ethno-national and economic characteristics.

450 representatives of the business sector, civil society, and media participated in the research through interviews and focus groups, and over 1600 citizens from 26 local communities were surveyed.

The conference that will be held in September is dedicated to insight into the state of local communities in terms of the UN sustainable development goals related to water, land, and air, but also the general state of community sustainability and climate change.

In the first part of the conference, we will present the results of the research, that is, the state of public goods in 26 local communities, and in the second part of the conference, a workshop will be held on the topic of organizing local civic groups for the protection of public goods. Also, the workshop will include fundraising and public advocacy sessions.

The conference is open to all citizens, formal and informal groups, as well as local businesses, media, but also civil society organizations, development agencies, etc. The organizer covers the travel costs and overnight expenses for the selected participants.

The communities in which the research was conducted: Banja Luka, Bihac, Bijeljina, Bosanska Krupa, Brcko, Cazin, Derventa, Gornji Vakuf/Uskoplje, Gorazde, Gradacac, Grude, Kakanj, Konjic, Kotor Varos, Laktasi, Mostar, Prijedor, Siroki Brijeg, Stolac, Tesanj, Trebinje, Tuzla, Visegrad, Usora and Zenica.
