Internship Diary: About Belgrade and Beyond24

How is it being an Intern at Beyond24 and exploring Belgrade for the first time? I will share my experience here!

My first Day. My AIESEC Buddy Jeca picked me up from the dorm and brought me to the office. We both were nervous, but the team turned out to be very nice. Before she left, we had breakfast and g2k all together. Everyone is so supportive and helps with any question. Today was an onboarding day, so I could learn a lot about the company and what I will have to do. However I could join a meeting with a client right away, which was a nice experience. Even though everything is new and interesting, the highlights here are definitely the hungry turtles in the garden!

Day 2. Today I met some more colleagues and spent a lot of time trying to figure out how Lonac works. I even have a HubSpot account now and need to learn how to work with it. I've never used it before, but isn't it the perfect time to start? In the evening, I could explore the city a bit more. I decided just to walk and see which new places I could find. Somehow I ended up at the river, then climbed up some hills, and was completely exhausted because of the heat. Of course, this led to me getting a little bit lost, but I still made it home on time to spend the evening on a call with my Local AIESEC in Münster discussing some Membership problems.

Day 3. As a German student, I should know the German universities, right? Well, that’s my main responsibility now. I decided to concentrate on Cologne today and did a lot of research about the unis there. I have the feeling now that I know more about it than the people who do actually study there. Of course, I did not start with Cologne, first came Muenster. But even though we have way fewer opportunities there, I discovered a university in my own city that I was not aware of!
In the evening, I was invited to an AIESEC social meeting, where I got to know some nice people and tried out Rakia for the first time. It’s not as bad as everyone says, but it definitely will not become my favorite drink. We were on the way to a Serbian traditional bar when we realized tomorrow was work and decided that this would be an experience for another day.

Day 4. Today, something special happened. The marketing department of AIESEC in Belgrade EF decided to take an interview. Well, getting the questions for the interview a few minutes before is stressful, but it was an experience. I always get overwhelmed when I have to speak for a video, but I hope it turns out okay. Apart from that, I was doing some more research and making contacts. Tired of the hot weather and my first week of work, I decided to spend the evening in the dorm with a nice book.

Day 5. It’ monday! The weather is getting worse every day, and by worse, I mean hot. On the weekend, I tried to see the city, but the heat just drove me crazy. It’s pretty cool in the office, though, which means more time spent here! As an advice: Don’t even try to get into the Nicola Tesla museum on a Saturday, it’s just too full, and they will make you wait for at least four hours. I’m going to try it out on another day.
Another discovery I made is that in Belgrade is, that they always serve coffee with a glass of water! That’s not the case in Germany, but it's very useful, especially when it’s 35 degrees.
On Monday, work was as usual, apart from me starting to get some responses. Let’s see, maybe I will even have some positive outcomes soon.
