“We don’t want an incinerator, we want a ski resort” – how Sanja saved Bosanski Petrovac (PHOTO, VIDEO)

Sanja Stojanović (45), hiker and activist from Bosanski Petrovac, managed to activate the whole  Bosnia and Herzegovina, and together with her fellow citizens and with the support of environmentalists, she rebelled against the construction of a medical, pharmaceutical and animal waste incinerator.

She stood in the way of powerful investors and corrupt politicians.

Powerful people, apparently, were unaware of who they were targeting. Because, Sanja is a person who does not fit into the patriarchal stereotype of a modest and obedient woman from a small town.

She loves her hometown

When she cares about something, she fights and bites like a lioness. And she loves her hometown and home country, and she really cares about Petrovac remaining a peaceful and idyllic place, known for its clear sky, clean air, medicinal plants, mountains, caves, forests…

– Our Oštrelj is one of the best air spas for lung patients in Europe, because the Mediterranean and Dinaric climates collide here – Sanja explains, while deftly climbing the slopes of this mountain pass, near Petrovac.

She showed us a neglected ski resort. A large, neglected restaurant and the remains of a ski lift testify that this place had better days.

– If there are investors who are ready to invest millions of BAM in Petrovac, let them invest in the renovation of the ski resort, and not in the incinerator, which would destroy our nature and endanger people’s health – says Sanja.

Sanja says everything that is on her mind

She reminds that this ski resort at 1,330 meters above sea level was built in 1984, as part of the Sarajevo Olympics, and that the people from Petrovac skied here until three years ago.

From a young age, rebellious, Sanja never refrained from saying what she thought and doing everything that she thinks and decides.
