Tomorrow, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina prohibits constructions of small hydropower plants, and on the same day the Hadzici Municipality approves construction of one

Tomorrow, the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina should confirm the decision of the House of Representatives and prohibit the construction of small hydropower plants with an installed capacity of up to 10 MW. The paradox is that tomorrow the Hadzici Municipality will vote on giving consent for a hydroelectric power plant.

At the beginning of last month, the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament adopted amendments to the Law on Electricity, which also defines the ban on the construction of mini-hydroelectric plants. If the House of Peoples also adopts the amendments to the aforementioned law tomorrow, it will be a great victory for environmental protection.

However, the paradox is that a session of the Hadzici Municipal Council is scheduled for tomorrow, where one of the items on the agenda is the decision to provide consent for the construction of a mini hydropower plant on the Lepenica River.

It is a hydropower plant with a capacity of 0.689 MW, with an estimated annual production of 2.98 GWh. The concession was issued by the Central Bosnian Canton for 30 years, starting in 2011.

The investor is the company Ali & Vis d.o.o. from Kresevo.

The new article of the Law on Electricity gives the possibility to all applicants, who already have concluded concession contracts, to complete the documentation for the issuance of an energy license within three years in order to avoid legal disputes.

Now it remains to be seen what will happen with this project, given that the House of Peoples of the Parliament of FBiH should adopt key changes tomorrow that prohibit the construction of new hydropower plants.
