The Municipality of Bratunac will draft a local youth policy

The Institute for Youth Development KULT held a training for interviewers who will, in the coming period, interview young people aged 15 to 30 in the Municipality of Bratunac. The results of this research will be used for preparing a draft local youth policy.

In the coming period, the interviewers will contact over 300 young people and discuss the following topics:

  • Youth education and science
  • Youth work, employment and entrepreneurship
  • Social care for youth
  • Youth health care
  • Culture and sports
  • Youth activism, participation, volunteering, mobility and migration
  • Youth safety
  • Youth in the COVID-19 pandemic

The field of youth research is quite complex since it requires insight into all spheres of society in general, because there is no area of life that is not important for young people. With such a wide range of different areas relevant to young people, additional attention must be paid to specific generational issues concerning exclusively the youth population. In addition, young people as part of the population aged 15 to 30 are not a homogeneous group and within this age structure there are several subgroups of young people – from adolescents to young adults. Certainly, young people, like the general population, are further divided according to the general social stratification of society.

In addition to the Institute, the Association of Women’s Forum Bratunac and the Association Friends of Srebrenica will provide support to interviewers.

In the next period, a working meeting with representatives of the local self-government of Bratunac is planned in order to form working groups for the development of this strategic document. Simultaneous collection of information in the field and information that measures and activities the Municipality of Bratunac already has focused on youth issues will facilitate the process of preparing local youth policy.

As the Law on Youth Organization of the Republika Srpska stipulates, the local youth policy in Bratunac will be harmonized with the youth policy of the Republika Srpska, and will be done in accordance with other development documents of this local community.

This activity is implemented with the support of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Resilience Initiative (BHRI) program, implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
