The British Embassy gave 13,450 KM for a facility in Ledići intended for children without parental care

The “Second” Foundation, with which the Cantonal Public Institution “Home for Children Without Parental Care Sarajevo” has signed an Agreement on cooperation in the implementation of activities in terms of improving work and providing support and assistance to children without parental care, received a significant donation from the British Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The donation in the amount of 13,450 KM is intended for the purchase of heating elements necessary for the completion of the first phase of works related to heating the building in the village of Ledići in Bjelašnica.

After the adaptation, this facility will be used for regular activities from the Home’s core activities, i.e. for the purpose of implementing program activities aimed at providing support to children and young people without parental care, children and young people who have difficulties in development, and cooperation with institutions with the aim promotion of social work in the light of the process of transformation of social protection institutions.

– We thank the British Embassy, which recognized the importance of this project for children, but also for the wider local community. We hope that other embassies, organizations, companies and individuals will follow their example so that the murmur of children will be heard in this facility as soon as possible – said Belma Mujezinović, director of the “Second” Foundation.

The main house, built in 1922, has a rich history and for a time served as an elementary school for children from the area. Today it is a monument to the National Liberation War, considering that Josip Broz Tito held one of the most important sessions of the Central Committee of Yugoslavia within its walls.

– We received this house and the associated buildings for use from the proBITRA Foundation for a period of 99 years. We wish to organize camps, workshops, mountaineering and skiing schools. In the long term, we want this facility to be a place where children from other homes would also stay, with an emphasis on children with developmental disabilities. Bearing in mind that we have a large plot of land at our disposal, we are also planning projects that would provide children with sports and recreational facilities and work-occupational therapy. However, our current focus is putting the main house into operation – said Samira Puzo, acting director of the Sarajevo Home for Children without Parental Care.

The next phase includes equipping the building with furniture, for which part of the funds have been provided, and the installation of a fence, as well as video surveillance, for which it is necessary to provide funds, the “Second” Foundation announced.
