The branding of zarac cheese – a Majevica delicacy – begins

The production of zarac cheese is passed down from generation to generation, and the locals of this area say that there is no celebration without this delicacy.

Lopare Municipality has started branding the famous cheese, and the Agricultural Cooperative has been established in order to create better conditions for members and increase production. The demand for this cheese is much higher than the supply.

During the holidays, when people from abroad come to Majevica, the demand for this cheese is much higher than the supply.

Lopare Municipality wants to brand zarac cheese as an indigenous Majevica product. They also have the support of the Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Zarac has a market share, it has its customers who love it. What we have to do now, and what we realized, is to buy as much equipment as possible for the women who are most active, so that they do not produce cheese in their kitchen, but in their mini dairies“, points out the mayor of Lopare Rado Savić.

The women from Majevica also presented zarac cheese at numerous fairs, and everyone who tried it wanted to buy it. Numerous Majevica diaspora, when returning from their homeland, buy zarac, a cheese that reminds them of their childhood and homeland, RTRS reports.
