Suspension of tram traffic in May, 40 buses will drive passengers from Ilidza to Bascarsija

This information was confirmed by the Minister of Transport of the Sarajevo Canton, Adnan Steta. The suspension will be due to the reconstruction of the tram line from Cengic Villa.

The assumption is that in the middle of May, we will work on reconstruction tram rails towards Cengic Vila. Once we get into that part, we will have suspension of tram traffic. Transportation will be done by bus. There will be enough buses, quite enough, maybe more than necessary. The citizens will not feel the suspension“, said, among other things, Adnan Steta during his guest appearance on TVSA.

It is known that many bus lines operated by GRAS in Sarajevo Canton have been malfunctioning for months and citizens have daily complaints. How will the bus traffic function when there are no trams and when new trolleybuses have not arrived yet, is a question that worries all residents of Sarajevo.

Apparently, most of the bus transport on the new line Ilidza – Bascarsija will be taken over by Centrotrans, whose buses mostly run on the route Ilidza – Cengic Vila.

From the first day of the reconstruction of the tram line, Centrotrans, as an authorized transport company, has taken over for the most part the maintenance of lines and passenger transport in the part where the line is being reconstructed. According to the authorities and citizens, there have been no complaints. This new way of transport organization, which implies the complete suspension of tram traffic until the tram line is repaired, requires a larger number of vehicles and we and GRAS are obliged to organize it. Centrotrans is working on that and has made complete analyzes of the required number of vehicles. The question is how many of the required number of GRAS buses can take over and maintain the lines. As before, we are ready to respond in a quality way and perform transportation“, says Safudin Cengic, director of Centrotrans.

He points out that the bus line Ilidza – Bascarsija will be the topic of conversation with the Minister and his associates.

They will determine the number of vehicles that, in their opinion, should meet the needs of passengers on the complete route. According to our rough estimate, between 34 and 40 buses are needed that will work along the existing lines Hrasnica – Bascarsija, Dobrinja – Bascarsija, Airport – Bascarsija“, says Cengic.
