Sister engineers from Zenica make incredible things from liquid glass

Two young production engineers from Zenica have turned their love for making something new and innovative into unique works made of epoxy resin. Belma and Ajla Šišić are sisters who are slowly conquering the market with their unique works.

Their shared passion for art and handmade products began in childhood. Then they made jewelry, posters and drawings for schoolmates.

“That early love for creativity evolved into a business venture. We specialize in making custom made epoxy resin wall clocks. Each watch is a unique work of art. In addition, we are dedicated to improving and researching the market, in order to further develop our brand”,  said Belma for Akta.ba.

They stumbled upon a video on YouTube about creating art pieces with epoxy and that’s how they started. They find inspiration for the development of epoxy materials in their creativity and desire to create something new.

“We immediately fell in love with that technique. Seeing that epoxy resin is still relatively unknown in Bosnia, we decided to investigate its possibilities. When we first discovered epoxy, we were fascinated by its versatility and the different possibilities it offers. We started experimenting with it as a hobby, and as we got more involved in the process, we realized that  we wanted to explore and develop our skills in this area,”  said Ajla.

As manufacturing engineers, they don’t consider their epoxy resin work to be out of their realm.

“Our professional background, which combines elements of economics and mechanical engineering, has actually provided us with an excellent foundation for this business. Our professors at the university guided us excellently. We acquired the necessary skills and knowledge that we now apply in the development of our business,”  they emphasized.

Working with eposki is challenging

Epoxy or liquid glass is a material consisting of two components, resin (A component) and hardener (B component).

“This material is extremely durable and resistant to wear, water, temperature… It can be used to make various items such as jewelry, tables, floors, watches and much more ,” explained Ajla.

They point out that working with epoxy can be challenging, as it requires precise measuring and mixing of components.

“With the right instructions and practice, we achieve great results. Also, epoxy can be colored with different pigments to achieve the desired look. This allows us to experiment,”  Belma stressed.

Epoxy as a material is very demanding, because the room where it is used and dried must be at a certain temperature (23 degrees) and free of moisture and dust.

“Most of our products are made of two layers: the first layer-layer of epoxy mixed with colors, where our creativity plays the biggest role. In this layer, we determine the pattern of our epoxy work. Second layer – final, as we like to say glossy layer. We consider it one of the more demanding parts of the production process,”  they said.

They often joke and say:  “We vibrate around him like around a small baby”.

Epoxy jewelry, watches and coasters

Their offer is based on unique watches. In addition to watches, the offer also includes coasters, trays, pendants, boards made of walnut wood combined with epoxy, molds, as well as various paintings.

“We don’t stop at these products only, and we research and expand our offer every day” , they emphasized.

Their clients include art and design lovers, gift seekers, collectors, corporate clients, decorators and interior designers.

“Each of the customers appreciates the quality, originality and artistic expression that our epoxy products offer. Our ability to adapt products according to the wishes of customers additionally makes us attractive to a wide range of clients”,  they pointed out.

Ajla and Belma are satisfied with their business and the state of the market. They point out that the market for artistic and handmade products shows growth. This gives them many reasons for optimism.

“We are particularly pleased with the increasing awareness of people about the value of unique, handmade items. There are challenges, but the satisfaction we get from creating unique products and the positive reactions of our customers make our efforts worthwhile”,  they emphasized.

Their motto and guide to the goal is  “Passion and innovation as the key to success.”  They emphasize that it is important to be passionate about what you do.

“Don’t be afraid to experiment and be creative in your approach. In addition, it is important to build good relationships with clients and be open to feedback. In the end, patience and persistence are key. “Success does not come overnight, but with the right attitude and dedication, it is possible to achieve extraordinary things,”  said the Šišić sisters.
