Sarajevo breaks record for tourist arrivals and overnight stays during New Year’s holidays

During the New Year holidays, from December 29 to January 2, according to statistical data from the Tourist Board of Sarajevo Canton, we recorded a 10 percent increase in the number of arrivals and eight percent in the number of overnight stays compared to the same period the year before.

Based on hotel reservations, whose occupancy was more than 97 percent, most guests were from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Turkey and China.

antona Sarajevo organized three free outdoor concerts on January 2nd, 3rd and 4th, with the aim of increasing tourist arrivals and their longer stays. According to statistics, in the period from December 29th to January 5th, Sarajevo was visited by 30 percent more tourists and  nearly 23 percent more overnight stays were recorded compared to the same period the year before.

Since Sarajevo had the longest New Year’s celebration, with  five nights of free outdoor concerts , we also recorded a longer stay of tourists, which amounted to 2.2 days, and with this richer offer we have made a step forward in extending the stay of tourists.

“In addition to the above data that show that we are on the right track in terms of the growth and development of tourism, a better tourist offer and the positioning of Sarajevo Canton on the map of desirable tourist destinations in the world, we are particularly pleased with the results of surveys of tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina. media, among which there are no negative opinions, and satisfied tourists are our ultimate goal.

“Our task is to justify the opinions of all those who voted Sarajevo as the best tourist destination to visit in 2025 in a survey conducted by the reputable  National Geographic magazine  at the end of 2024,” confirmed  Haris Fazlagić , President of the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board.
