Recognition for the Wine Road of Herzegovina

RECEVIN is a European network of wine towns. Since 2012, RECEVIN has been awarding awards under the name European City of Wine and European City of Wine Dionisio in order to recognize European cities that stand out for supporting and promoting wine culture. The title of Dionisio European City of Wine is not only proof of the quality of the wines produced in the Mostar area, but also of Mostar’s commitment to the preservation and promotion of its viticultural heritage. This recognition follows Toulouse’s successful mandate as the European Dionisio City of Wine 2023, positioning Mostar at the heart of European wine culture and opening new avenues for cultural and economic development. This title and the entire presentation of the city of Mostar as the European city of wine is a significant step for Mostar, as the cultural and economic center of Herzegovina, which now stands out as the starting point of the wine culture of this area. This title also represents recognition for the entire Wine Route of Herzegovina, a cultural route that, in addition to Mostar, includes the cities/municipalities of Čapljina, Čitluk, Ljubuški, Stolac and Trebinje. The Wine Route of Herzegovina is a member of the pan-European cultural route Iter Vitis of the Council of Europe, which promotes some of the most prominent European wine destinations with their unique landscapes, authentic way of life and cultural-historical and material heritage. Founded in 2007 by the Tourist Board of Herzegovina-Neretva County.

The Wine Road of Herzegovina went through various development stages in order to be revitalized in 2022 by the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina (VTK/STK BiH), with the support of the USAID Tourism project. Today, the Herzegovina Wine Road is managed by VTK/STK BiH in cooperation with the cities/municipalities of Čapljina, Čitluk, Mostar, Ljubuški, Stolac and Trebinje with the support of USAID Tourism. The wine route of Herzegovina is continuously becoming more visible and attractive in wider international circles, and the European recognition of Mostar as a city of wine is proof of that.
