The Institute for Youth Development KULT in partnership with the BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees, with the support of the European Union, organized a meeting with representatives of all levels of government in BiH to present the BiH Framework Guidelines for Implementation of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights 2021 – 2025.
The document specifies the ways of implementing human rights in business, through which BiH obliges that it will respect international regulations and thus go towards improving the existing positive legal norms for respecting human rights in business.
The United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP) are a set of guidelines for states, business sector and those that violate human rights in business, with the aim of preventing, addressing and making available remedies for victims during business operations. The United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP) are an instrument consisting of 31 principles for the implementation of the United Nations Framework for Protection, Respect and Legal Assistance related to human rights issues in the business sector. Developed by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Human Rights in the Business Sector, these Guiding Principles have provided the first global standard for preventing and addressing the risks of negative human rights impacts associated with business activities and continue to provide an internationally accepted framework for strengthening standards and practices related to business and human rights.
Last year, Bosnia and Herzegovina received a recommendation from the High Commissioner for Human Rights to adopt a document such as the Framework Guidelines, which would allow BiH to join other developed countries that have previously adopted such documents.
“Human rights are fundamental rights and freedoms to which we are all entitled, without discrimination. Bearing in mind that our country has been recommended by the United Nations to develop and adopt guidelines for the implementation of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, this document seeks to prevent human rights violations in the business environment and the wider community. The document that is in front of us and the numerous activities that follow its implementation show the state’s commitment that all employees have equal treatment,” said Mrs. Nina Mišković, Secretary of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH.
The Institute for Youth Development KULT developed the mentioned document within the project “Improving Human Rights Corporate Accountability in BiH” which is being implemented in partnership with the Association of Employers of FBiH, with the financial support of the European Union.
