The City of Goražde continues to finance projects of non-governmental organizations in the field of sports, youth and other associations. Today, contracts on the allocation of funds by public call were signed, and for these purposes, 45,900 BAM will be allocated from the city budget.
The right to allocate funds this year was exercised by 29 associations, of which 19 sports teams, seven associations and three youth organizations.
President of the Mountaineering Club “Goražde – Maglić” Zajko Šovšić points out that sports associations always lack funds.
“We applied for funds to go to the Southeast European Orienteering Championship, which was supposed to be held in Zagreb last year. It was postponed due to the earthquake and pandemic. We hope that it will take place, we have received confirmation and we will use one part of the funds we need“, points out Šovšić.
During the contract signing, the needs and problems faced by the associations were also discussed. It was pointed out that there are many problems, from the lack of core funding, financing of projects, accommodation and similar. One of the biggest problems for sports teams is the necessary infrastructure, the lack of which prevents better results in all segments of their work.
The president of the Volleyball Club of Goražde, Nermin Obuća, emphasizes that sports clubs have been “fighting” with the lack of sports infrastructure for many years, because no new facility has been built in Goražde since the end of the war.
“A large number of clubs use the sports hall and we face the problem that we can no longer provide enough time to perform regular training processes. All clubs have their younger selections, which makes a huge number of athletes who use the sports hall and it is high time to think about building new sports facilities. Today, the mayor announced that he will give his best to change this situation,” said Obuća.
He added that the Goražde Volleyball Club seven years ago made a preliminary design for a sports hall of smaller dimensions, up to 500 seats, where volleyball players, basketball players, karate athletes could train, which would free the City Hall “Mirsad Hurić” for handball teams and give everyone more terms.
The Mayor of Goražde, Ernest Imamović, stated that the city administration is aware that the planned funds are not enough, and notes that the City of Goražde, in accordance with the possibilities, strives to support activities aimed at promoting the city, developing sports and other social segments.
“I ask sports associations for patience when it comes to infrastructure. A big challenge is the reconstruction of the sports hall in which a lot of funds have been invested in the past 20 years, but our children and sports teams do not have adequate conditions for training, so I as mayor will focus on my work to find better solutions “, said Imamović.
