All owners of motor vehicles registered in the Republika Srpska have the right to free transportation of defective four-wheelers on roads or public areas, to the nearest safe location or auto-moto company.
This is foreseen by the new law on the basics of traffic safety on the roads of Republika Srpska, which has entered into force. According to the Auto-Moto Association of Republika Srpska (AMS RS), after free transport of defective vehicles to the nearest safe location for all road users, the vehicle user has the right to choose the further mode of transport, i.e., to choose the most suitable carrier or any business entity engaged in the transport of vehicles.
Perica Pećanac, an independent senior expert associate for public relations and international cooperation of the AMS RS, told to Glas Srpske that Republika Srpska, following examples of the countries in the region and Europe, has decided to regulate roadside assistance by law and always has an institution obliged to make sure that the roads are safe.
– The goal is to increase safety, speed up traffic flow and provide assistance to all traffic participants on the roads of Republika Srpska – said Pećanac and reminded that AMS RS has an obligation to transport for free vehicles registered in Republika Srpska, and damaged in a traffic accident in Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as passengers to the desired destination in Bosnia and Herzegovina once a year.
Acting Deputy Director of the Republika Srpska Traffic Safety Agency, Milija Radović, told to Glas Srpske that drivers have used the free vehicle transport service so far after the traffic accident.
– The new law stipulates that only AMS removes vehicles from public roads in the event of a traffic accident and defect – said Radović.
The president of the Association for the Improvement and Safety of Traffic, Milenko Jaćimović, says that the expansion of the services of the AMS RS will significantly reduce the costs to vehicle owners.
– Fortunately, many drivers do not experience a traffic accident and have not used the previous privilege for free transportation during a traffic accident. I support the expansion of AMS services and benefits for drivers – said Jaćimović.
Zlatko Buliga, on behalf of the Auto Karting Club from Laktaši, says that a few years ago there were attempts through Auto-moto companies to provide free towing or transportation.
– What is now regulated by the law will be a huge benefit for all drivers – said Buliga.
