Do you know how many tourists visited Bosnia and Herzegovina in January?

In Bosnia and Herzegovina in January 2024, tourists made 90,614 visits, which is 18.5 percent less compared to December 2023 and 2.9 percent more compared to January 2023. Tourists spent 212,251 overnight stays in January, which is 0.8 percent less compared to December 2023 and 1.9 percent more compared to January 2023.

In the total number of overnight stays in January,  the participation of domestic tourists was 36.2 percent, while 64.8 percent was the participation of foreign tourists.

The number of overnight stays by domestic tourists was lower by 12.1 percent compared to December 2023 and higher by 3.9 percent compared to January 2023.

The number of overnight stays by foreign tourists in January was higher by 7.0 percent compared to December 2023  and higher by 0.8 percent compared to January 2023.

In the structure of overnight stays by foreign tourists in January 2024,  the most overnight stays  were achieved by tourists from: Croatia (34.4 percent), Serbia (19 percent), Turkey (6.9 percent), Montenegro (6.6 percent), Slovenia ( 6.4 percent) and Germany (3.0 percent), which is a total of 76.8 percent. Tourists from other countries accounted for 23.2 percent of overnight stays.

Regarding  the length of stay of  foreign tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the first place is occupied by tourists from: Luxembourg with 5.5 nights, Estonia with 4.6 nights, Romania and the Republic of South Africa with 4.2 nights each, and Greece, Malta and Egypt with 4.0 nights, on average.

 In January 2024 , 19,178 rooms, apartments and camping places were available to tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina , which is 6.0 percent more than in January 2023, and 42,382 available beds, which is  6.3 percent more  than on the same month in 2023.

In January 2024, a total of 17,857 rooms and apartments were available to tourists within the scope of activities – Hotels and similar accommodation, which is  6.4 percent more compared to January 2023, and 38,071 beds, which is 6.7 percent more  compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the data of the BiH Statistics Agency.

The net occupancy rate of rooms in January 2024 was  29.3 percent , and of permanent beds 25.1 percent, while in January 2023, the occupancy rate of rooms was 23.5 percent, and of permanent beds 18 percent.

According to the type of accommodation facility,  the largest number of overnight stays was realized within the Hotels and similar accommodation sector with a share of 97.6 percent.
