Children from the Association Down sindrom Mostar presented their artwork

On Sunday, marking the World Down Syndrome Day, a promotion of the picture book “Kresivo” by Hans Christian Andersen, created as part of the art workshop of the Association Down sindrom Mostar, was held in Mostar.

The president of the Association, Igor Ledić, said that the picture book is bilingual and of really high quality.

– We decided to present the works created at our art workshop on this day. Additionally, we decided on another project and made a printed edition of the fairy tale “Kresivo” using these illustrations created by our members. The picture book is really of high quality and I sincerely hope that it will find a place in every home – said Ledić.

He added that the children from the Association Down sindrom Mostar really enjoy art workshops.

– Since our last workshop was held and until today, I have received over 50 calls with inquiries when the workshop will start again and I can say that we are on the track of continuing the art workshop. When we produced the picture book, emotions were really strong, the children recognized themselves and their work, there were tears of joy, but all of us who were part of this project are also very happy we managed to do this – said Ledić.

He announced that the workshop for citizens will be held today on the Spanish Square in Mostar starting at 4 pm, with the help of students of educational rehabilitation.

– The workshop will be held in a very interesting way. We will hang colorful socks. Everyone who joins us and hangs colofrul socks will provide support to people with Down syndrome, and will receive an educational card about the syndrome – said Ledić.

The coordinator of the mentioned art workshop, Dalibor Nikolić, said that it was a special experience to work with this type of population.

– We have developed various friendships and I can say that we are like a big family. I am extremely glad that a large number of institutions have been involved in all this, because we can make life more beautiful for these children if we all get involved at least a little, and their smile is the biggest reward for all of us. The children did not want the workshops to end, every now and then they ask me when the new cycle will start and I can say that the artwork created in our workshops are of respectable artistic quality and social dimension. I am proud to be from Mostar because even some larger communities do not have similar activities – Nikolić pointed out.

The workshop held by the Association Down sindrom Mostar was supported by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy of FBiH. Today, together with the promotion of the picture book in the Gallery “Rondo”, the Association also organized the opening of an art exhibition featuring a selection of artwork, collages, drawings and illustrations that are part of the previously mentioned picture book.

The printing of the picture book was supported by the City of Mostar, the Operator for Renewable Energy Source and Efficient Cogeneration, the City of Čapljina and the company FEAL d.o.o.
