Charity is not on vacation: Here are 7 beautiful initiatives from the region

If someone asked you – what do an educational workshop, the Soup kitchen in Bar, hand-made gingerbreads in Novi Sad and a garden with organically grown fruits and vegetables have in common – you are very likely to be confused.

Of course, there is a purpose that binds these initiatives into one philanthropic whole: humanitarian actions by companies, associations and individuals organized throughout the region this summer, contributing to better and more humane conditions for many members of our society.

Read their stories below.

Summer charity workshops

The tradition of Summer Get Together summer workshops and trainings continue, organized by the Represent Academy, part of which is donated to charity. Participants will be able to develop their own writing skills. With the help of improvisation exercises they will be able to find possible solutions to crisis situations they encounter at work.

Four workshops will be held in person in the afternoon between July 22 and August 12. The lecturers, including the actor and professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts Srđan Karanović, choose the institutions and projects to which part of the money will be donated.

Summer Get Together and Xmas Get Together workshops were held for the last two years and were supported by: Almagi Foundation of the Mathematical Gymnasium, NURDOR, Zvečanska, Anfiteatar festival, SOS Children’s Villages, Lice Ulice, Dečije srce and Budi human.

The Divac Foundation will support the Soup kitchen in Bar

The Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation with the Mohanđi CG Foundation, in cooperation with Luštica Bay, organized a Charity Evening on Almara Beach. Funds collected from the tickets were paid into the account of the NGO “Žene Bara/Women from Bar” as an aid to the Soup kitchen run by “Women from Bar with a big heart”. The president of the NGO, Ljiljana Vujović, said that during the charity evening, 5,650 EUR were collected for the Soup kitchen.

The charity evening was wonderful, and was organized with the goal of helping the Women from Bar. I am glad that we can, in some way, help them to persevere in their intentions, said the famous basketball player Vlado Divac, emphasizing that he is delighted with the work and perseverance of the Association “Women from Bar”.

The Women from Bar are our inspiration and we want them to be an inspiration to everyone else. When you work with people who have sincere intentions, then it is not work, it is a pleasure. We all have a goal, but the path to that goal is important to us. That process is what makes you happy and satisfied, said Vlade Divac.

“Stonogica” providing help to citizens

The preschool institution “Stonogica” from Sremska Mitrovica, in cooperation with the city administration for education, organized a charity action with the goal of raising funds for three citizens who need it the most.

“Our little means a lot to someone” is the name of another in a series of charity actions organized by this institution. Highlighting giving as the motto of life, this time on the City Beach, the kindergarten “Stonogica” gathered children, parents, grandmothers, grandfathers and all those who wanted to join and give their contribution to the treatment of Nataša Nedić, as well as Andrea and Anastasia.

The charity action was held on July 14, and 95,250 dinars were collected in just a few hours.

The most humane garden in Serbia: “We plant life”

The first spark in the charity work of the organic farm Organella from Valjevska Kamenica was ignited a few years ago when people with cancer were given quail eggs for treatment.

Now, a young team of experts, with the support of the National Association of Parents of Children with Cancer NURDOR, has launched a humanitarian project “We plant life”, in which all vegetables grown on the new 50 acres of Organella estate will be donated to children with cancer and their parents who are staying at accommodation provided for parents.

All this would not have been possible if three friends and associates Pavle Đordđević (30), Teodora Tasić (28) and Darko Šijakinić (27) had not founded the association “Bašta može svašta”.

The idea was to motivate other organic farms and producers to join us, to set aside a part of land for charity purposes and to have many “gardens that can do anything/bašta koje mogu svašta” – said Pavle, Darko and Teodora.

This idea will become a reality only if we all work together and give our small contribution, so that those who are fighting their great struggles know that they are not alone. Join this important mission, let’s plant life together! You can support the campaign with an online donation at Donacije.rs.

Providing help to sick children by competing and selling gingerbread cookies

The first Gingerbread Fair, organized by the Humanitarian Association “Tezga za život”, was held on Saturday at the Hotel “Leopold” at the Petrovaradin Fortress. In addition to the sale, a competition was organized, as part of which an exhibition of these handicrafts was set up.

The event, like everything organized by the “Tezga za život”, is a charity event. As part of the competition, in the hall of the “Leopold” hotel, original gingerbreads made by the authors on the themes: “Novi Sad”, “Vojvodina” and “Flowers” shone. A blue hat decorated with flowers, a cupboard, flowers, painting of Balašević, as well as Čvarkov from “Državni posao” were there.

The three best works, which were evaluated by the representatives of the expert jury, will be sold at a charity auction.

In the sales area, near the studio at the Petrovaradin Fortress, the handicrafts of fashion designers who donated gingerbread for this fair were also exhibited. The entire income from their sale will be donated for the medical treatment of children who collect money through the “Budi human” Foundation.
