Call for applications for journalists: Cooperate with the Network for Building Peace within the LocalWorks Program

Are you a journalist who wants to point out the existing problems in your local community and seek help? Or are you familiar with examples of good practice that you want to share with others? Are you interested in initiatives and events in local communities and do you think it is important to share them publicly? If this is the case, then you are the perfect person to cooperate on the LocalWorks project, which is implemented over a five-year period by the Association Network for Building Peace and funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Within this project, the Network for Building Peace wants to cooperate with journalists who will report from local communities, and with their writing point out the existing problems or positive examples and practices in local communities throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Why should you cooperate with the Network for Building Peace?

Because works and stories from local communities will be published on the highly popular portals of the LocalWorks project (www.snagalokalnog.ba) and the Network for Building Peace (www.mreza-mira.net). [M1] Because you want to help local communities with your reporting and writing and make the activities of local activists, local businesses or institutions more visible. And of course, because this is an opportunity to cash in on your desire to promote local communities – this cooperation is paid.

What do we expect from you?

  • Independent mapping of stories from the local community, activists, businesses or institutions that work in local communities and bring an interesting story, idea, initiative, independent preparation of questions and arranging interviews;
  • Independent interviewing;
  • Field work (going to local communities independently, and possibly with the Network for Building Peace staff);
  • Field reporting, interviewing, photo/video in the field, writing stories related to the LocalWorks project;
  • Responsible and sensitive approach to work;
  • Delivery of stories within the agreed time limit;
  • Cooperation with the Network for Building Peace staff team;

Conditions:

  • Work experience in journalism;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the political and social situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina;
  • Accuracy and good literacy;
  • High level of initiative, self-organization and responsibility;
  • Quality oral and written expression
  • Creativity and motivation to work
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Previous recognitions in reporting on vulnerable groups, human rights and from the local community, as well as education on human rights reporting, reporting from the local community are considered an additional advantage;
  • Possession of a driver’s license and a developed network of acquaintances with activists, businesses and institutions in local communities are considered an additional advantage;

We expect creativity, initiative, dedication to work, completion and delivery of stories on time/within previously defined deadlines. Journalist will be hired on a service contract and paid according to the completed/performed and submitted task. After considering the applications, the staff of the Network for Building Peace will organize a meeting with the selected journalists.
