What is UMiD (Learn, Think and Act!)?

UMiD is life-changing training. This is how the students of the first sixteen generations describe it. UMiD training is an incubator of young active leaders in society. Training that allows you to become an example and driving force in your community and participate in solving youth problems, but also to prepare for your own career, gain new skills, meet new young people like yourself, improve and socialize.

What is UMiDp (Learn, Think and Act! for youth political leaders)?

UMiD for youth political leaders (UMiDp) is the Institute’s program for youth political leaders aged 18 to 30, coming from different political parties and different local communities. Through 15 days of training, young politicians acquire knowledge and skills that help them improve their actions, especially in the field of youth rights. During the training, they have the opportunity to learn theoretically and practically and build a political image that is different, more innovative and more acceptable to peers.

During 2018, 2019 and 2020 this training was attended by three generations, 64 participants from 15 different parties. After the confirmed results and certificates, 13 participants were elected councilors, and one participant was elected mayor.

More information about UMiDp is available in the video, which was created by previous generations.

What is LCI? (Local civic initiative)

Local civic initiative is an action, an activity of citizens aimed at improving the situation in the local community and the society in which citizens live. Citizens can be involved in civic activities individually or jointly, all with the aim of pointing out specific problems and solving problems in the community in which they live. Participants will have the opportunity to launch their advocacy initiative to offer solutions to some youth issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Why train and educate young politicians?

Statistics from the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina relating to the 2020 local elections show that young people, whether they voted or were candidate at the elections, participated significantly and were an important part of the electoral process.

The turnout of young people in the 2020 local elections was 51.44%, which means that more than half of the young people who had the right to vote voted. In other words, every second young person in Bosnia and Herzegovina voted in the 2020 local elections.

The names of 7398 people aged 18-29 were on the electoral lists, and in the last elections, young people won a total of 425 seats.

It is necessary to work on strengthening the competencies of young politicians regarding the understanding of economic and social development as well as the development of culture and human rights in society. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen the competencies of young politicians in advocating for youth issues and acquaint them with the importance of youth policies while successfully conducting advocacy campaigns and acquiring effective communication skills.

Three generations of UMiD training for youth political leaders have been educated on these topics.
