As a guest in BiH, you will always be offered food, almost never in Scandinavia

In BiH, but also in many neighboring countries, there is an old saying that says “Three days is enough for each guest”.

According to some legends, this saying originated in the town of Fojnica in one of the oldest guesthouses in Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes  Večernji.ba.

The story about that house says that the guests had the right to stay there for three days completely free of charge, using the kitchen, and the rule that was valid was: “For the poor as well as for the bey and the sultan”.

However, the saying “Three days is enough for each guest” does not really reflect the actual situation when it comes to hospitality, both in BiH and in the countries of its neighborhood and the wider environment.

Namely, in recent days, a particularly interesting map has been shared on all social networks, which shows the probability that you will be offered food as a guest in certain countries across Europe.

“Will you get food as a guest in someone’s house?” is stated as the title of the graphic accompanying the published map, and on it different European countries are represented in different colors, which testify to whether as a guest in those countries you will also be offered food .

BiH in good company

Places where you almost always get food are marked in dark blue. On the other hand, light blue is reserved for countries where hosts will often treat you to food, while orange indicates countries where you are not expected to be given food. Finally, those European countries where they will almost never offer you food as a guest are marked in red.

What can be immediately noticed, in contrast to the numerous maps on which we as a country are often in some bad positions, is that the countries of the Mediterranean, including BiH, as well as the countries in its closest neighborhood, stand out in hospitality and are colored in a dark blue shade, which, according to this card, means that you will almost always get food when you are a guest in someone’s home.

Proverbial hospitality, which many guests, tourists and passers-by through BiH and surrounding countries witnessed and still witness every day, is one of the brands that, despite being well recognized in the world, has never been used enough. This is the potential on which the tourism strategy of each of the countries in the Mediterranean could definitely be based, especially BiH and the countries of its closest neighborhood. It is something by which we are recognized at the world level. There are many testimonies of foreign tourists that we can find on social networks, who felt at home in BiH, were hosted as if they were at home and, of course, were offered copious amounts of food, which is a tradition here that we all take for granted. . In the same way, you will be hosted in the neighboring countries of Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro, where there is also a tradition of treating the guest with the utmost respect and, of course, huge amounts of food.

According to this map, Albanians, Greeks, Bulgarians, Turks will also be happy to offer you food…

The southern parts of Italy, Spain and Portugal are also colored in dark blue. Interestingly, this level of hospitality, when it comes to food, is somewhat lower in the northern part of Italy and Spain.

The cold north

In contrast to another saying “The more south the sadder”, on the map of the Amazing maps portal, the diametrically opposite is the case.

The situation here is desperate just as you move north. So, not always, but, for example, they will often offer you food in the Baltic countries, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, but also in Ireland, Hungary, Slovenia and Switzerland.

It is not really expected that you will dine as a guest on trips in most of Great Britain (with the exception of Scotland and Northern Ireland) and in Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and most of Germany.

As it moves towards the north of Europe, in addition to lower temperatures, the effect of hospitality also freezes, and you will literally be left with empty stomachs as guests in countries where, according to this map, you will almost never be offered food, primarily Scandinavian countries. the northern part of Germany, Denmark, Iceland and the Netherlands. Judging by this, northerners are not inclined to be very hospitable when it comes to gastronomy towards foreigners, so if you go to visit somewhere in the far north, be sure to stock up on sandwiches so you don’t go hungry.
