Archaeological treasure of Konjica – Have you heard of the Kauri cemetery?

The stećak necropolis at the Kaursko groblje (Ciklice) and Brdo u Vrbljani sites is located near Konjic at 650 meters above sea level, and since 2006 it has been declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The national monument consists of the necropolis with stećci Kaursko groblje with about 200 stećci and the necropolis with stećci in the Brdo site with four stećci.

Their decorations are: double spiral, crescent, circular wreath, arcades, rosettes and human figures; a man on a horse, next to a horse, a man with a shield and a sword, a staff.

One of these stećaks is reproduced in the Encyclopedia of Fine Arts and certainly belongs among the first-class monuments of its kind.

Among these stećci there is also a Roman milestone with several carved stone blocks of the Roman province, it is written on the official website of the City of Konjic.

Although it lies in a secondary position, this landmark serves as proof that the route of communication that connected southern Dalmatia and Herzegovina with central Bosnia and beyond the Danube passed here.

It led from Narona (Vid near Metković), through Dubrava and Nevesinjsko polje to Velika poljana near Lipet. From Lipet to Podorašac and further north to Ivan Mountain, the routes of the Roman road and the later road from the Ottoman era coincide.

The meadow below the necropolis is called Crkvina, and the contours of the individual walls of a construction object, so far unidentified, can be recognized on the site.
