An exhibition that will remind you of 20 unforgettable years of Abrašević from Mostar

The exhibition “Retrospective of 20 years of OKC Abrašević” is the final event of the year-long celebration of the 20th anniversary of the restoration of the work and progressive ideas of the Mostar cultural center.

The exhibition that opened on Tuesday in OKC Abrašević will certainly remind fellow citizens of some moments from the past two decades of maintaining the ‘bridge on dry land’, i.e. generating space for independent and youth culture in the city of Mostar.

The exhibition “Retrospective of 20 years of OKC Abrašević” organized by OKC Abrašević and the Kostart platform is the final event of the year-long commemoration of two decades since the renewal of work and progressive ideas of the Mostar cultural center.

Although it was challenging to create an exhibition like this that shows all 20 years of the center in a small space, OKC assistant program coordinator Nikola Roncevic did not shy away from the subjective impression of seeing Abrašević.

“The exhibition is not aesthetic, it is documentary, but not classical because I did not run away from my subjective experience of Abrašević. I wanted to show the atmosphere of what this center is and what it aspires to be – an open center, a refuge, an oasis, a bridge on dry land, a gathering place, a place that is open to all people regardless of religious, ethnic, national or sexual orientation.” he pointed out.

It is a documentary exhibition where the archive of OKC Abrašević was used.

“We can see 20 years of Abrašević in one visual representation through photos of concerts, workshops and other events. Also through posters. Then we also have an audio exhibition with old radio shows and a video exhibition where we managed to digitize an analog recording of the placement of containers and what Abrašević looked like 20 years ago,” Roncevic said.

20 years ago OKC Abrašević was conceived as a place that nurtures free thought, open to all people regardless of religious, ethnic, national, religious, sexual and gender affiliation.

During this time, it profiled itself as a laboratory for artistic experiments where amateurs can become professionals, and professionals can be reminded of the essence of amateurism. It has become a classroom because it nurtures enlightened ideas, a dance floor for those who want to dance, a listening room for those who want an alternative sound. As OKC Abrašević put it nicely: “An oasis for all serious travelers who want to refresh themselves”.

The exhibition can be viewed on March 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
