The works on the repair of damage to the section of the railway line at Komadinov Vrelo near Jablanica, which began on November 30, 2024, are proceeding according to plan. Workers from the Turkish company Cengiz Insaat Sanayi – Zenica Branch, which has taken on the repair of this section, are on the ground every day, completely free of charge. In addition to its employees, Cengiz Insaat has also provided heavy machinery necessary for the implementation of the railway reconstruction project, the FBiH Railways announced.
After the completion of preparatory works on clearing the terrain and building a plateau for dismantling the damaged railway and unhindered delivery of machinery, the remains of the track grid, approximately 80 meters long, were successfully removed. After that, work began on the construction of the bridge that will connect the railway from Sarajevo to Mostar. The bridge will be built with two side pillars – Abutments U1 and U2, with a span of 26 meters.
Despite the less than ideal weather conditions, all the necessary machinery for the work can be seen on the ground. The employees of Cengiz Insaat are making great efforts to complete the work as soon as possible and make the railway functional.
On December 21, 2024, the complete drilling and concreting of 11 piles on both sides of the railway was carried out, i.e. for both side pillars – Abutments U1 and U2, six from the Jablanica U1 side and five from the Mostar U2 side. Also, the construction of the parapet beam of the bridge was carried out from the Jablanica side, as well as the walls of the Abutment U1, while the concrete of the parapet slab was installed from the Mostar side and the reinforcement for the parapet beam towards Mostar was installed, as well as its formwork and concreting. At the station 88+650, machine backfilling and compaction of the material on the existing culvert was carried out, as well as the formwork and concreting of the base (foundation) slab as well as the reinforced concrete walls of the culvert. Works on the installation of reinforcement and the installation of the culvert formwork are underway.
As they state, the exact date of completion of the works cannot yet be discussed, but the fact that the works so far are proceeding according to plan, very precisely and in accordance with the designed parameters, inspires optimism.
Once again, the FBiH Railways would like to thank the Cengiz Insaat company for everything it is doing to ensure that rail traffic to the southern line is established as soon as possible, as well as the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Sarajevo, which donated the services of reviewing project documentation, and the IGH Institute doo Mostar for donating construction supervision services.
