What do employers in Bosnia and Herzegovina expect from the new generations – what skills must they develop?

As part of the cooperation between the Rolify community and the Deloitte initiative – D2international (D2i), a panel discussion was held yesterday in Sarajevo on the topic of employment and skills development with a special focus on the labor market in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event brought together the partners of the Rolify community – leading representatives from the business sector, who shared their experiences and discussed the challenges of employers and the key skills needed for the success of young people and the future workforce in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Although the purpose of this event was to bring the topic of D2i closer to representatives from the USA, it also marked an important step towards understanding the needs of the local labor market and creating opportunities for young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The feedback collected on the panel will be used to improve  the Rolify community , which wants to help young people with professional orientation in order to be as successful as possible in the labor market.

Given the rapid changes in the global labor market, the panelists agreed that  adaptability and willingness to constantly learn  are becoming increasingly important skills.

Azra Sarić , director of HTEC Group in Bosnia and Herzegovina, pointed out that the labor market and employers have matured in the past ten years, but that the same key factors are still expected of young people entering the labor market:

“What we are looking for from young people entering the labor market remains the same – team spirit and readiness for lifelong learning.”

Nermana Ajanović-Hajdarpašić , director of operations of Kolektiv doo/MojPosao.ba, emphasized the importance of these characteristics:

“In a world of constant and accelerated change, the only skill that matters is the ability and desire to learn and adapt. Combined with persistence and discipline, these are the skills that will successfully introduce young people to the jobs of the future.”

In addition to technical skills, an important part of the discussion was devoted to the values that young people should develop in order to be more competitive in the labor market.  Dobrila Močević , director of PRIME Communications and member of the Business Union of Managers (BUM), reflected on how crucial personal values such as responsibility and adaptability are:

“Openness to new experiences and knowledge will continue to be key, but literacy, respect, responsibility and adaptability remain the most important qualities that are best monetized.”

We would like to thank our partners for joining and supporting initiatives that contribute to a better future of youth employment in Bosnia and Herzegovina.  We invite other interested parties to join us in the future and  think about the last time someone impressed them at a job interview and why?
