In the Tuzla University Clinical Center, more precisely in the basement of the Clinic for Internal Diseases, the Day Hospital of the Clinic for Oncology and Radiotherapy and the Clinic for Hematology and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation was opened today. Patients suffering from malignant diseases will be treated in the day hospital.
– With this space and equipment, we can rival any center in the world. The capacity is 20 beds per day for patients who need oncological treatment through chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biological therapy, hormone therapy, or the entire program of specific oncological treatment. We have complete equipment that exceeds the standards of all institutions in the area, so there is everything patients need – says prof. Ph.D. Šefika Umihanić, acting head of the Clinic for Oncology and Radiotherapy.
The complete project is worth about 1.7 million KM, and was realized exclusively with donations.
– Donations were mainly through material, labor and creativity. It is a large group of people who took part, led by the company Deling Invest. The Tuzla community foundation donated funds, collected through social networks with the participation of influencers – says Šefik Husić, assistant director for nursing at UKC Tuzla.

Husić adds that this is only the first phase of the project, and that the second phase will be realized on an additional 1,000 square meters.
– Everything needed for the patient’s stay is provided, including a place for an escort. There are TV receivers, a Wi-Fi network available to make your stay as pleasant as possible while receiving treatment. UKC Tuzla currently has 60 patients who need oncology-type therapy, and we have enough places for them. In addition to oncology, hematology patients will also be treated here, who will have equally good conditions – says Husić.
