The moderator of the forum was Abbot Danilo Pavlović. A child in the Catholic Church
dr. Ivan Šarčević spoke about raising children through family, school, church, media and politics.
“The Catholic Church has a very well-organized upbringing of children through catechesis,” said Šarčević. dr. Semedin Kadić also shared his thoughts.
A child in Islam
“Children are a gift of God according to Islam. God gives to whom He wills, what He wills and how much He wills. Today, in the age of artificial insemination, nothing is magical anymore, but children are still a gift from God. The question of whether we will have children is a personal question. “If an entire generation gives up children, there can be a collapse of society, which is happening in the West,” he said. He stated how having children is essentially something that is against our best interests.
“Parenting contains something essentially moral. Children are the confirmation of the morality of parenting. Obligations towards children – feed, support, raise… all this is quite well defined according to the teachings of Islam. We have a duty to give them the right guidance, at least what we think is right. And constantly parents have to ask themselves what is right. Freedom and obedience are the two values by which children are raised. Some practice obedience or kindness to parents, while others practice freedom, as in e.g. America. Do children have the right to work to their own detriment? In the culture of freedom they have. How can a child be responsible if he is attracted by the shine of a shop window?”, asked Kadić.
