This year, the Skakavac Mountaineering Association is organizing the jubilee, fifth edition of the Skakavac trail race, which will take place on September 4th and 5th.
The special partner of the race is the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina. As part of the race, the 3rd Championship of Bosnia and Herzegovina in mountain running will be held, it was announced from MA Skakavac.
We invite all runners, both professionals and recreationists to experience Sarajevo in a different way. This year, the Skakavac Trail offers four tracks of 21, 42 and 69 kilometers and a special race – Skakakvac Canicross (a race in which owners run with their dogs).
The Skakavac trail is a mountain race held in Sarajevo and the nearby mountain Ozren. The race promotes the differences that make the city unique in the world. The longest race of 69 kilometers gives runners the most beautiful view of the city, the 42-kilometer race passes through the most beautiful slopes of Sarajevo, and the 21-kilometer race certainly brings an unforgettable experience to all who decide to participate.
Since the race is mostly held in nature, we have dedicated the greatest importance to promoting natural beauty, especially the Skakavac waterfall, which descends from a 98-meter-high mountain rock, which makes it the highest waterfall in Southeast Europe.
Our races also promote the cultural and historical heritage, such as the Bistrica station from which the longest race starts and the monument to the first light bulb that shone in Semizovac after New York, which is the race finish and announcement of winners.
Thanks to the good organization of the first and second National Championships in mountain running, the Athletics Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has again this year entrusted the organization of the Championship to the Skakavac Mountaineering Association. The championship is being realized as part of the longest race of 69 kilometers, and the fastest competitors will qualify for the World Championship in 2022.
The Skakavac Mountaineering Association is continuously working on the promotion of mountain running, cleaning and preserving nature, as well as tracing new trails that can be used for many sports activities.
The realization of this year’s race was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton and the Municipality of Vogošća.
Registration for the race is open until August 22. More information about the race is available on the website www.skakavactrail.ba.
