The Goražde – Žepa – Srebrenica Peace Marathon started from Memorial Forest 8372 in Posestra near Goražde, which Goražde athletes traditionally organize for the ninth year.
The Peace Marathon passes through the former protected zones of the UN, and eight marathon runners from this city will cross the 180-kilometer road, including one of the most successful BiH runners. athlete Emir Hastor.
“Traditionally, on the way to Srebrenica, when passing through Goražde, we lay flowers on the memorial to the fallen defenders, members of the MUP and the murdered children of Goražde, and then we continue towards Žepa, where we will also pay our respects to the victims and defenders. We will continue our journey towards Srebrenica in the morning hours of July 10”, says Hastor.
The participants of the marathon through the former protected zones of the UN this year were joined by friends from the Association for the Promotion of Mountain Biking Nature riders from Goražda.
“Three cyclists from that association will cross the 180-kilometer road with us and together we will honor the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica. In this way, we will once again show that the inhabitants of the city on the Drina share their pain with the families of the victims of the genocide”, said Hastor.
The people of Goražde will mark the 29th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica on Wednesday, July 10, by learning the Salla and participating in the activity “Stand for Humanity” organized by the Mufti of Goražde. Head of the Department for Religious Affairs and Education Refik ef. Čaušević points out that traffic will be suspended on Trg branicala grada during that time.
“At the time of the Salle lesson, let’s ask all road users, of course also pedestrians, to stop and in this way send a clear message, to stop for all of humanity, especially in this time when human lives are being destroyed in Gaza, Ukraine and other places. What we understand from the Qur’anic text is that “if someone kills one person, it is as if he killed all of humanity”, and that is genocide. This is a symbolic act by which we want to tear away from oblivion what happened, to stop and think about those events, in such a way that we at least morally send a message that we are with the mothers of Srebrenica and other mothers whose sons were killed during the aggression against our country,” he says. Effendija Čaušević.
During the evening prayers on Wednesday, special lessons will be organized for the martyrs of Srebrenica, while the day after the funeral in Potočari, the Youth Network at the Alija Izetbegović Bridges in Goražde and the Youth Bridge in Ustikolina will organize the performance “Nema te na kahvi”.
“This year’s commemoration of the genocide in Srebrenica is a sign of the adoption of a new resolution, and we hope that the truth about Srebrenica will be even clearer and that various contents will be made known in many more locations in the world,” said Goražde.
