“After the withdrawal of the consent of the City Council, the next step is the termination of the concession contract”, according to the press release of the Aarhus Center, which is reproduced in full below:
The Aarhus Center in BiH together with the informal group of citizens “Protect the sources of Mandek” from Livno express their satisfaction with the support of the majority of councilors of the Livno City Council who on Wednesday 28.02. at the session annulled the conclusion from 2010 on the granting of a concession for the exploitation of “water” at the “Poljane” location. This six-year struggle of the locals points out the illegalities in the concession contract and continues to fight for the preservation of the Mandek springs.
The locals supported the claims about the lack of a valid public hearing and the lack of valid water acts of the investors with documents from the competent institutions. Cantonal and Federal institutions confirmed in a written statement the absence of project documents, water acts and environmental impact studies. The group invites councilors to debate based on these facts.
After the withdrawal of the consent of the City Council, the next step is the termination of the concession contract, which will be decided by the competent court. The group points out that termination of the contract will fully protect Mandek’s resources. Further action is expected to ensure the long-term security of water resources and legal protection of the interests of the local community.
The lawyer of the Aarhus Center in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with her presence and presentation at the session, expressed her support for the citizens of Livno in their struggle for the preservation of the Mandek spring.
