The People’s Republic of China donated medical and protective equipment to the Cantonal Hospital in Zenica

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bosnia and Herzegovina donated 50,000 BAM worth of medical and protective equipment to the Cantonal Hospital in Zenica.

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bosnia and Herzegovina donated 50,000 BAM worth of medical and protective equipment to Cantonal Hospital in Zenica (KBZ), which includes an ultrasound machine and 5,000 protective masks and 1,000 medical coveralls suit to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Adviser to the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Bosnia and Herzegovina Miao Dake stated that the Government, non-governmental organizations and Chinese citizens living in Bosnia and Herzegovina have donated 50,000 doses of vaccines and other types of medical materials to Bosnia and Herzegovina since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, and that the commitment of this country is to strengthen health cooperation on a global level, in order to end the pandemic as soon as possible.

We chose Zenica in order to contribute to better protection of the medical staff of the KBZ who have been working on the first line against the pandemic for a long time. I thank you for your professionalism. Friends, the great distance between China and Bosnia and Herzegovina cannot prevent the friendship between our two peoples,” Diake said.

The Prime Minister Mirnes Bašić thanked the people of the People’s Republic of China for the donation, which, he noted, came thanks to the engagement of the doctor of the Zenica Hospital, Malik Ejubović. He emphasized that KBZ was also a priority for the Zenica-Doboj Canton Government, which, through the Ministry of Health and the Crisis Headquarters for the fight against coronavirus, directed all its resources to strengthening the capacity of that institution.

What is important to mention is that we have started a historic project in KBZ, and that is the project “Energy Efficiency”. The director of KBZ informed me this morning that a public call was published on Friday. We will again get the Law on Financial Consolidation of Health Institutions in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina through politics, the Federal Parliament, and it is planned that our KBZ will receive funds for its consolidation“- announced Prime Minister Bašić.

The Health Minister of Zenica-Doboj Canton and the President of the Crisis Headquarters of the Ministry of Health of Zenica-Doboj Canton Adnan Jupić reminded that the surgeons of Zenica Hospital were the first in the region to treat a COVID-infected patient, and gynecologists performed the first birth of an infected pregnant woman. At the beginning of the pandemic, Jupić reminded that Zenica-Doboj Canton was an “island” in the wider Balkans for the first four or five months, without any dead patients who were infected with the coronavirus.

The director of KBZ, Rasim Skomorac, said that a modern ultrasound machine will be installed at the Internal Medicine Department, and that the donated protective equipment will be useful for the protection of employees who work with COVID positive patients on a daily basis.
