The Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Bosnia and Herzegovina donated chess pieces to the City of Mostar for outdoor play, and on this occasion, a donation contract was signed today in the City Hall of Mostar.
The contract was signed by the Mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordić, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to BiH, Teresa Lizaranzu Perinat.
Thanking for the donation, the mayor said that the ambassador visits Mostar very often and provides all kinds of support to the City Administration, and expressed his satisfaction that playing chess outdoors has revived in that city.
– This chess board project on the public areas of the City of Mostar and the possibility that our pensioners and all chess lovers have the opportunity to play this noble sport has eroded the ravages of time. The ambassador gave us the opportunity to revitalize and renew that project and the two of us will try to play a game of chess together – said Kordić.
He added that the chessboard is located on the Spanish Square, so the Kingdom of Spain has joined the project accordingly.
He noted that the cooperation between the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the City of Mostar is extremely good, and that it would take a long time to count all the joint projects that have been implemented in that city in the past period.
Spanish Ambassador Teresa Lizaranzu Perinat also highlighted the good cooperation with the City of Mostar and said that they wish to re-establish the game of chess in the open air with this project and continue the continuity of successful cooperation.
– We wish that people in that place will continue to meet and socialize comfortably in the future – said the ambassador and announced that several more activities will soon be realized in Mostar, such as supporting the Street Arts Festival and children’s theater performances and bringing the exhibition “El Prado on the streets” in Mostar.
Today, on Španski trg, where the chess board is located, a showpiece rapid-move chess tournament was organized by H.Š.K. “Zrinjski” and Š.K. “Mostar”, and at the end of the tournament, the ambassador presented appropriate prizes for the first three places.
