In 2019, Džemo started the cleaning action of the old and neglected green oasis on Trimuša – the trim track on Mostar’s Bijeli brijeg.
Today, Džemal Kasumović, Džemo, as everyone in Mostar calls him, received a Certificate of Acknowledgment from the Mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordić, for his selfless commitment to the city. Namely, Džemo started the cleaning action at Trimuša – the trim track on Mostar’s Bijeli brijeg in 2019, a green oasis, which has been neglected for years. “I’m not leaving until I fix this,” were his words when he decided to clean the city lungs. This active 69-year-old humanitarian, retired person and recreational runner, came from Brankovac every day, diligently removing fallen trunks, collecting garbage, and cleaned Trimuša.
He didn’t ask anything from anyone, he did not criticize anyone, he noticed the problem and decided to work selflessly on it, with a vision to do something nice for us and the city. And then everything started, following the example that Džemo gave to all of us, the citizens joined Džemo in cleaning of this part of the city – the initiative Together for Trimuša, Running School Sanus Motus, HPD Prenj 1933, Cycling Club Mostar, Association Zajedno za naš grad, Association Kinezis, as well as numerous families participated in the creation of this beautiful story. Today, Trimuša is slowly taking the shape it once had. It takes a lot of work until it gets that old green glow, but thanks to Džemo, the action started. It is now up to the citizens to continue to keep Trimuša clean, and the authorities to maintain, so that everyone can enjoy it. Because every city needs its lungs.
