The Center for Digital Innovation was opened yesterday at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of East Sarajevo, one of whose goals is the development of innovative digital solutions to support small agricultural producers.
This goal should be realized through the engagement of students and teaching staff of the University, as well as cooperation with local communities, business entities and related organizations in the country and abroad, the Pale live portal reported, referring to Srna.
The Dean of the Electrical Engineering Faculty of the University of East Sarajevo, Božidar Popović, said that this is the first office of the Digital Innovation Center in Republika Srpska, BiH and the whole of Southeast Europe.
Popović emphasized that in the past period, projects related to agricultural production, ecology and air quality monitoring were implemented through the Center.
– Through the Digital Innovation Center, students who have already completed their final and master’s theses are involved, and we hope to involve students even more and make regional contacts – said Popović.
He added that the opening of the Center was also attended by representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization, who provided support and will be involved in the implementation of the “Thousand Digital Villages” project, whose partners will be the municipalities of Pale and Kakanj.
The Mayor of Pale Boško Jugović said that digital innovations are the future, and that the opening of the Center for Digital Innovations is important when it comes to the development of the economy and agriculture.
Jugović pointed out that it is most important that all digital innovation projects are implemented in the area of municipalities, the city of East Sarajevo and the entire Sarajevo-Romania region.
The head of the International Project “Smart Innovation Centers” Nenad Marković said that the Erasmus plus project “Innovation Centers” supports higher education institutions in the countries of the Western Balkans, including Republika Srpska, Albania and Montenegro.
Marković points out that this project, with 17,000 euros, helped establish the Center for Digital Innovation at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.
– Our goal is to stimulate the teaching staff to connect with various business entities as soon as possible through the development of their entrepreneurship competencies – he said.
The representative of the department for providing professional services in agriculture at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Srpska, Milica Veletić, pointed out that it is a great honor for her to attend the opening of the Digital Innovation Center, which is primarily based on digital agriculture, as an advisor.
Veletić emphasized that they also attended the presentation of the greenhouse-net platform, which will help agricultural producers to have better and better quality products.
Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Božidar Popović, Mayor of Pala Boško Jugović and representatives of the Tourism Organization of the city of East Sarajevo signed an agreement on cooperation yesterday.
