The Botanical Garden of the National Museum will be connected to Wilson’s Promenade

The revitalization of the entire area of the botanical garden of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina will expand the capacity of this space, along with complete landscaping and the introduction of new contents that were missing from this institution. Prime Minister KS Nihad Uk talked about the project, the implementation of which should begin soon, as well as the dynamics of the works, with the director of the National Museum, Mirsad Sijarić, and the Head of the UNESCO Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Siniša Šešuma. The renovation extends to the south side of the botanical garden, towards the Wilson Promenade, and funds have been secured for the first phase of the project.

“About 5,000 square meters of area are planned to be arranged, which will be prepared for the reception of visitors. In the second phase, the intention is, with the support of the authorities, to open the entrance to the National Museum from Wilson’s Promenade. I think it will be a big step for the Museum, the city, but also the entire country, because it is the only such space in BiH, originally planned for that purpose, but not used”, said Director Sijarić.

As he stated, the project planned for the National Museum to get an additional pavilion that would solve the issues of the lack of a catering facility and a souvenir shop, a space outside the Museum’s buildings that would be used throughout the year. Through the implementation of this project, it is planned to solve the issue of access for people with disabilities to the exhibition spaces of the Department of Natural Sciences and the indoor botanical garden.

“Everything has been coordinated with the Federal Institute for the Protection of Monuments and the State Commission for National Monuments, and the projects have also been secured,” added Sijarić, emphasizing the cooperation with UNESCO, which is involved in all projects.

Prime Minister Uk pointed out that the revitalization of the botanical garden represents a significant step towards the improvement of this valuable space, making it more accessible and attractive for all visitors.

“I am glad that the works have started, because it is really unacceptable that such a treasure has been unused and neglected for the last six decades. It is time, as the director also stated, to finally remove that shame. We greatly appreciate that, despite many years of difficult conditions, the National Museum manages to implement such projects, which will be of interest to the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Canton of Sarajevo will continue to support the National Museum,” said Prime Minister Uk, as stated in the press release of the KS Protocol and Press Service.
